Thunderbird is a desktop email client, an alternative to Microsoft's Outlook, from the developers of Firefox. Thunderbird is an easy, fast, hassle-free client that helps you manage your email more efficiently. It can handle multiple accounts, it's dead easy to set up and has one of the most effective spam filters our there. Plus, it can be improved and expanded with extensions, just like Firefox. Like I said, configuring Thunderbird is easy as pie. You can quickly import data (email messages, contacts, settings, filters) from other email clients, and even set up webmail accounts in a totally automated process that only requires your email address and password. No more dealing with SMTP servers, SSL settings and other gibberish! Thunderbird comes bundled with a few extra utilities: built-in spellchecker, a very powerful search tool, and filters that help you organize mail in different folder sets (which on the other hand can be a bit confusing). On the downside, there aren't many options to handle attached files, and Thunderbird doesn't have the threaded style email view many of us have grown used to thanks to Gmail. Thunderbird has done a great job in this new version and proves to be one of the best desktop email clients out there.
