Limewire is a very popular peer to peer filesharing application. Users of the latest release will notice the radical redesign, bringing it aesthetically up to date. Like Vuze before it, LimeWire appears to be encouraging legal downloads with the LimeWire Store. The library is so far a little limited compared to competitor download stores, but we expect this will expand. Otherwise it's business as usual on LimeWire, but with a much simplified and cleaner interface. Because it's a new release, there are still some bugs, but the basic file sharing functions as well as ever. The new design makes scanning your search results much easier, and downloading files is totally intuitive. The built-in player is still unintrusive and useful for checking audio and video files, but no more. LimeWire goes out of its way to check you are aware of the legal implications of illegal filesharing, on installation you have to agree no to infringe copyright, and if you download a file for which LimeWire can't find a license you will be warned and can stop or continue at your discretion. The Friends function has been much improved. You can sign in with your Gmail, Jabber or LiveJournal accounts, and share files between any of your friends there who are also on LimeWire. This is much easier than tapping out IP addresses, and if enough of your friends use LimeWire, it could become great community sharing tool. LimeWire searches remain within the P2P network, but you can open torrent files with it, and it functions very well as a torrent download client. This is not the most advertised feature of LimeWire, which may a way of keeping legal challenges at bay, but it's a shame that you can't search for torrents within the program. The official release of LimeWire 5.0 makes for a much improved P2P experience.

Adding this to the fact that there are no other customization options for Sponsored Ad Blocker, and that it sometimes blocks non-ad elements on websites, it's an application that we'd be slow to recommend. Although Sponsored Ad Blocker isn't terrible, it's an inflexible program that lacks customization options and we'd be slow to recommend it.

Everything worked fine except for Facebook, which kept on showing a "Connecting?" message though the widget was up and working on my Facebook profile. My ICQ account didn't seem to respond either, but I guess it's got something to do with the fact that Digsby is still in beta stage. Digsby saves chat history, supports file transfer and features an extended settings menu from which you can tweak the program's appearance and performance. The only drawback I found, besides the Facebook connectivity issue, was the lack of speed when starting the program and logging in. But then again, it's well worth it. With Digsby you'll be able to manage all your online accounts for email, IM and social networks under a single interface, making it much easier and faster for you to stay in touch with your friends.

It allows you to connect to another user's computer and share their desktop without having to change any firewall or router settings. This is obviously perfect if you need to find out why someone is having problems with their PC or if you just want to simply share information with them. The key to this program?s appeal is its simplicity. In fact, the developers claim you?ll be sharing desktops within 60 seconds of installation. After installing CrossLoop, you will see a welcome screen with two tabs. Select the ?Join? tab if you would like to connect and control a friend's PC. Select the ?Host? tab if you would like to temporarily share access to your PC. This host tab contains an important 12-digit access code that your friend will need to enter to connect to your PC. Obviously, the only requirement is that your friend has Crossloop installed too to initiate a session. Once done, you?re ready to go. A separate window opens with your friend?s desktop and you can tinker to your hearts content. There?s not much you can do to customise such a simple program but the developers have recently spiced up the tabs with some new skins such as Aqua, Jungle, Nebula and even Pink Lemonade. The most recent release features a completely new design and they've extended the networking community functions. Now you can create your own profile where you can view your login history and rate those that have helped you. For those that are really handy, you can also receive a Crossloop "badge" and advertise your services on the site - great for IT support professionals. Obviously, the main concern with such P2P connections is security. However, the developers maintain that all sent information is highly encrypted with a128-bit algorithm using the randomly generated 12-digit access code mentioned earlier. There?s no need to worry about anyone accessing your PC without permission either ? a popup requesting permission from you alerts you before any information is exchanged. The only real drawbacks of Crossloop are that as yet, it doesn?t offer file sending or a chat function. This is not a disaster because you can always use a separate instant messaging application to do this but these features would be the icing on the cake. Nevertheless, Crossloop really is an excellent application for what it offers. The fact that it is free only adds to its appeal, considering similar programs such as Copilot charge anything up to $5 for 24 hours of use. However, the popularity of this program means that the developers may start charging for it soon: so take advantage of it now whilst it's free! Afterwards, I'd suggest looking into the preferences to set BOINC to use your computer only when it is idle, such as overnight. Don't forget to leave it connected to the Internet though. There's three different views to choose from, with the advanced one divided in tabs. This will give you all the statistics on projects, messages, transfers and disk usage information. The best view is probably the graphical one, which shows the frequency live in a multicolored wave form and data in a bar graph. Overall, BOINC is easy to use, even if you don't have particular knowledge on volunteer computing. The only thing to watch is that the application doesn't use up too much of your resources, or to only launch it when it's inactive. A nice way of sharing your computer's resources for the greater good, BOINC is easy to set up and provide lots of useful statistics.
